Heart Full of Hope

This weekend I was so proud of our community.  Saturday, 2.500 Fort Bragg citizens joined people all around the country and the world to march.

We marched to stand against racism, bigotry, misogyny, and hate in our country and  the white house. To demand protection of the rights we have, and the safety, dignity and health of all the people.

I marched to demand equality, for women, for people of color, the LBGTQ community, immigrants, and Muslims.  In the United States, as progressive as many of us are (especially in Northern California) it becomes easy to ignore the injustice that so many Americans deal with every day.

I took my kids to the march.  They were proud to march for equality for all people. Equality is a pretty simple thing in a child's mind because of course everyone should be treated equal. We walked with my parents , my sister in law,  my niece and so many friends.

I was very glad to see three of our city council members there,  it gave me hope that if it comes down to it our city will stand up to protect the rights of all of its citizens.  I am hopeful that if we continue to stand together that we will be able to protect the rights we all deserve, and hopefully bring awareness to the fact that so many in our country do still face racism, inequality and injustice everyday.

Seeing a hateful, racist, misogynist bigot rise to power in our country has opened many Americans eyes to the fact that the fight is not over. We need to keep demanding better from our neighbors, our government, our elected officials and now our President.

Let's not stop at this march.  We have to continue forward with this momentum.  Write, email or call your representatives.  Pay attention to our local government and participate in it.
If you are not sure where to start, try starting here.

Every day I am grateful to live in this amazing place, and this weekend was a happy reminder it's not just this place that is beautiful the people in our community are beautiful too, we are so lucky.
